TRUE IDOL

You said 'No other gods before me,'
But what if You were the god
I placed before Thee?

A two-sided king of tough love
and conditional mercy,
who demanded desperation
coded as humility.

A hands-tied ruler
who wanted pure faith,
in exchange for contradiction
and works unpaid.

So I killed the king of grace unmet,
the king of almost, yes-but,
of heaven not yet.

I swung for the king,
was careful not to miss.
I let him die. I let me rest.

And in this softer world,
I no longer reach,
I feel perfect love fill towards me.

Less ifs, less thens,
less strivings within.
I hear a voice, I let it in.

I killed the king and won't call it sin,
for I found the true God
I had placed behind him.
